How boosted gift card rewards work
Every gift card you buy through Fold earns bitcoin back automatically. No extra app to open, no code to enter, no separate step tacked onto checkout. You buy the gift card, bitcoin lands in your account. That's the baseline, and it runs quietly in the background every single time.
Some weeks, that reward goes further. A set list of brands pays out at a higher rate for a limited window, usually a weekend. That's a boost.
What actually changes during a boost
Nothing about how you shop changes. What changes is the rate on a specific list of brands, for a specific window of time.
- Standard rate: what you earn on any gift card, any day
- Boosted rate: a higher rate on select brands, active only during the listed window
- After the boosted rate expires, that brand drops back to its standard rate automatically
You're not opting into anything new. You're buying gift cards for stores you already use, and for a few days, the bitcoin you earn on that purchase is worth more.
How to actually use it
- Open the Shop tab, tap the magnifying glass in the top right corner
- When the search bar opens, select the Categories drop down and select ‘Boosted’ and hit ‘Apply’
- The results will show you all boosted gift cards currently active
- The higher rate applies the moment you buy, no code and no signup
Say a coffee chain is boosted at a rate above standard for the weekend. If you were already planning to load fifty dollars onto a gift card for your regular order, buying it Saturday instead of Tuesday means the same fifty dollars earns more bitcoin, for doing exactly what you were already going to do.
Why Fold runs boosts this way
Most reward programs ask you to opt in, activate a category, or remember a code. Boosts don't work that way here. If the brand is marked as boosted and you buy during the window, the rate is already applied. There's nothing to forget and nothing to lose by not checking a box in time.
Common questions
Do I need to do anything to activate a boost?
No. If you buy a boosted gift card during its listed window, the higher rate is automatic.
What happens if I buy right as the window ends?
The rate that applies is whatever's active at the moment of purchase. Once the window closes, the brand reverts to standard.
How often do boosted brands change?
It varies week to week. Some brands rotate in and out, some categories show up more often around specific times of year.
Does a boost cost anything extra?
No. You're paying the same price for the gift card. The only difference is the bitcoin rate on that purchase.
Check the Shop tab each week to see what's boosted. Some weeks it's takeout. Some weeks it's the store you were already planning to hit for a birthday gift. Either way, the reward is already built into something you were going to do anyway.
